Well here we are again!

Well, we’re here. After not updating the site for a year, I have some housekeeping to do. Once done we will be live again! Check back soon.

Sick of being sick!

Well, this has stuffed things up. Both Roger & I though last night we were on the mend. Yeah, right. NOT

This damned wog turned around & nailed us overnight so we have both been grounded again today.

We have taken it very easy today, just laid low & hopefully a bit better tomorrow. Missed the start of racing today so now it’s just about enjoying the last few days, hopefully we get to hit a slope tomorrow.

Fingers crossed.

The dreaded lurgi

If you live with a dog long enough… As Roger was getting over cold/flu, I picked it up. NOT HAPPY JAN!!!!!!!

Have missed 2 days of skiing so I haven’t been out Since Sunday so starting to go stir crazy.

We have had to cancel 2 dinner invites but hopefully we can make the Club day/afternoon Saturday. Have been running hot & cold, coughing, sneezing & barking. At this stage don’t think we’ll make race day 🙁

Oh well, there’s always next year. Will have some photos to go up later, Roger went up this morning but he is now paying for it, cold has freshened up.

Well, that’s all from quarantine headquarters ( no, it isn’t COVID ) so we’ll post again tomorrow.

Update :)

Hi Everyone.

Just a quickie…have been uploading pikkies but have also started with a short video. More to come…..

We’re still alive!

Well, It’s been a week & we have been busy boys.. Weather has been good up until today. Woke up this morning after a week of between -5 & -8 temps to find it a warm 2 degrees, slightly raining and no frost.

The last few days have been mainly fine but with cold temps and lots of frost. Haven’t needed chains since the last snowfall which is great.

Have loaded up some more pikkies and we will have a few more yet.

Racing has been slick but the rest of the mountain has been really well groomed even though it is starting to need some more snow…soon.

We had a little bit this morning but it was mainly rain & fog.

Roger has had a cold/flu last few days so we didn’t ski Saturday or Sunday but went up for a while this morning until stinky weather chased us off the mountain. By the way, our new fave word is “stinky”…Stinky snow, stinky weather, anything that is off is just plain stinky! They closed access to the race area mid morning this morning due to wind and they also put Greengates lift on wind hold.

We had some hope we would have more snow tonight but doesn’t look likely so skiing will be rather tame.

Found a fave new coffee spot, only a small outlet but they do have some undercover seating. Run by the same crew as Fergburger in Queenstown so after all these years we finally had one of their burgers & yep, well worth the hype.

Many of the places we knew have either closed down or changed hands and gone severely downhill so it was nice to find somewhere good. They combine a butchery, bakery, coffee & takeaway food all under a pretty small area which is amazing. has to be the best value eats anywhere in Arrowtown.

Well, time for a quick shower before it starts to get really cold. Suspect it will be a clear & cold  nite tonight and hopefully a reasonable start for tomorrow.

Brrrr…

Hi Everyone.

Today has been much warmer. Yesterday ( Sunday ) was -11 here at the cottage & we just weren’t that interested in freezing up on the mountain so we gave it a miss.

We have some new pikkies which I will upload later tonight. It was -1 down here this morning which meant it was too warm for them to make snow up top so we didn’t have to contend with freezing snow blasting into our faces.

Took one of my boots in yesterday to be expanded so skiing this morning was bliss. No more cramps but next year will be a complete refit. Boots and skis are showing there age. They will be fine for the rest of the season but time to call for a change.

A number of the club members are hopefully having a get together before we leave so we are looking forward to that. A significant number of club members we knew are not here this year which is sad, but let’s face it, neither Roger or I are as young as we were. Mind you, still having heaps of fun smokin younger snowboarders who think they can crowd the old guys! Roger captured me doing exactly that on one of my downhill practice runs so that’s providing some giggles.

Anyhows, I need to sort some pikkies out & render a video clip so I’ll call it quits for now!

Cheers,

Let the fun & games begin…

Hi Everyone.

Sorry for the absence. Blame it on technical issues 🙂 As we haven’t used the site for so long, lots of things were cactus!!!

Well, where do we start… I think this post will be just a start & I will finish editing tomorrow. Masters started today and it was an interesting day to say the least…but let’s start from the beginning.

We landed mid afternoon last Sunday and got some supplies & settled in. That night it started to rain and Monday Coronet was closed. We went up anyway to stow all our gear into the locker ready for Tuesday. Oh boy. Overnight temps dropped to below zero, in fact -2 and SNOWING!!

The Peak hadn’t had any new snow since late June so it really started to transform. Over Tuesday & Wednesday the Peak had nearly 1/2 a metre!

The next couple of days we renewed our love-hate relationship with chains. Temps down here in the valley were between -4 & -9 so just a tad cool & some very significant frosts. On Wednesday we actually had a light dusting of snow down here on the valley floor.

Have managed to catch up with some long time friends which is really nice.

So, to this morning…. A complete dumb day. As it has been 4 years since I skied, my feet have changed a little & my left boot is REALLY causing some pain. That & a really busy ski day and the head just did not want to co-operate. Ended up bombing out, coming home and sleeping the dumb off.

Put boot heaters into the left boot & attempting to blow it out to give some wiggle room. If that doesn’t work it will be into Queenstown to get it really attacked.

As usual, Roger is on top of his game so we have to put a stop to that. Next couple of days should be mild. Tomorrow is not a ski day instead we’ll maybe hit the pool and do some laps.

As usual, we’ll keep uploading photos and try to be a bit more regular in our posts. Hello to everyone back across the ditch!!!

A quick update

Hi everyone.

Having some issues with the web server so hopefully will do a proper post tomorrow. In the meantime, the first of the pikkies are up!

C & R

Well, that’s not what we expected…

Well, we made it across the ditch no probs. No luggage stuff ups, car was ready so we headed to the cottage. So good to see the family again.  We got ourselves settled and put our gear into the car for an early morning head up the hill.

Come this morning up & at it. Headed towards the Peak & it started to rain. Said to Roger this doesn’t look good. Joking of course & didn’t think it would be for real. Got to the top & guess what IT’S CLOSED!!!!!!!  Too wet. It was looking very sketchy as they have had unusually warm weather & low snow falls, the good new is as I am writing this mid afternoon, rain has turned to snow up in the mountains.

Hopefully in the morning we will start our season. Spent the day running around & getting some gear organised. Checking out what coffee shops are still around ( our fave, Provisions, is under different management & is not the same) but the French Bakery is still there, however it is now strictly take away, no seating. Such a shame. Anyhows we have 1 more option that has been good in the past so maybe it is still there.

Anyways, that’s all from us. Currently it is 1 degree outside so we’re hiding inside keeping warm. Until tomorrow…

Finally, after COVID & some false starts & heart attacks, we are getting ready to head over for our first season since 2019! Looking forward to catching up with everyone & we’ll see you on Sunday. The Red Baron skis again!!!
