Hello again!

Dawn

Sorry it’s been a couple of days, we ran into internet troubles and didn’t get things going again until yesterday. The shot above is dawn at Coronet over one of the ski club buildings. We went over to the Remarks on Thursday to clock a few runs and take a peek at the new base building. I reckon they should have swapped the base buildings around. The new design should have been at Coronet.  Very nice building but the one big attraction….a huge indoor fireplace. It was nice & toasty. Didn’t get any indoor photos but photos of the outside & of the Remarks runs are in the pikkie gallery.

Friday was a ripper of a day. Both Roger & I had probably one of the best ski days we’ve ever had. Both clocked up a lot of time on the snow. Did both morning & night skis. Got a couple of shots of the groomer fleet heading up the hill ready for night ski.

This morning we went up to Coronet as usual, but it was a slightly shorter morning as we needed to tidy house up & get things organized as we intend to do a night ski tonight and then we’re on the road in the morning heading to Dunedin. See you all soon.

Hello, Hello

Broughs Way

Hello from across the ditch. Sorry we didn’t post yesterday, in fact we really didn’t take many photos at all…it was too damned cold. -8 at the lifts 🙁  Today was much kinder. -5 at the car & -3 at the lift. Veritable heatwave conditions. We were actually able to take gloves off to use cameras without getting frostbitten fingers. It really was that cold. I don’t think we would have enjoyed the -20 day they had earlier in the season.

For those that don’t know, Sir Leslie Brough is a living legend here. He is one of the original 1947 crew that actually established Coronet Peak Skifield. In earlier years when I didn’t do a great deal of skiing, I actually got to know he & his wife very well & in fact we owe them a great deal for putting us in the know as to where to go & what to do. Coronet Peak has recognized his contributions in several ways but the most memorable is the dedication of one of the main ski runs to him, & fittingly it is called Broughs Way. The photo above is the end of that run. We were lucky enough to catch up with them again this season as he doesn’t come up the mountain much anymore, he is not as young as he used to be! He means a lot to us.

On other notes, we have had 2 very fine, clear days but with that comes crowds so the skiing has been a little cramped and yesterday was just so cold, even last night at the cottage it was a little difficult keeping warmth in the house, but we managed with the help of some Scotch & Vodka. Amazing stuff that.

Really, that’s about all. We’re both keeping well, enjoying our skiing very much. We have added a few photos to the album, so enjoy!

Still it snows…

So, this is the view that greeted us this morning. We finished night ski last night and got out before the snow really hit. Woke up this morning to quite a blanket. It was a really surreal drive to Coronet, we followed snowplows most of the way first to the turnoff, then up the mountain. Chains were needed all the way up & staff turned away a couple of 4 wheel drives who didn’t have them, mind you, one bolted up the hill before staff were organised but didn’t get far. He carked it about 150 metres up in the middle of the road 🙂  When will people learn. 4 WD doesn’t equal chain free driving.

The skiing was brilliant today. I usually don’t go up but after Rogers session last week I made a point of it & am very glad I did. Most day session metres I’ve ever done, mind you..freezing by the time I came in. Roger had a fairly easy day, just floating downhill enjoying the mountain ( yes Sammy, we hear you ).

Kicked back this afternoon and relaxed…mind you somewhere along the way we apparently bought a skifield & I nicked off up the hill in a brand new groomer…don’t ask. Roger can explain!

That’s all for now, enjoy all the new pikkies until tomorrow.

It’s puking snow !!

Hi all.

We went up for a night ski as we usually do and it was good for a little while but then visibility dropped and we decided we had done enough so we thought we’d leave. Couldn’t have timed it better. We just managed to get out without putting chains on. It is bucketing down. Right down to the main road in fact and almost hitting us in Arrowtown.

Should make for a good morning tomorrow, so good that we are breaking our “Sunday rest day rule” and going up early to sneak some runs in.  We have some more pikkies from today to load up but we will do that tomorrow. Both Roger & I are a bit unsettled in the tummy, not sure what they put in their pies but this is twice now we both have felt off after eating so out they go!!!!!

Hello from across the ditch. It’s official. We have had snow at the cottage!  Started late yesterday afternoon and slowly built up into the night. Woke up this morning to a carpet of white. Wasn’t really that much at the cottage but it sure was nice up the mountain. Chains all the way up though. It has continued to lightly snow on & off all morning.

We both had a really good session this morning but called it quits because our feet were frozen solid & it was getting busy. Have come down for a fuel up & to get ready for a night ski tonight. Have also grabbed some toe warmers 🙂 Whilst  typing this it has started snowing lightly at the cottage again. Woohoo  🙂

Will update again tonight, but in the meantime, enjoy about 20 new pikkies in the gallery.

With apologies to The Minions.

Brrrr estimating -14 tonight with wind chill and southerly front almost on us. Snow is only about 50M above us and just starting to sleet right now.  Roger & I are both a little out of sorts as we are back to just the two of us. Have dropped Tony off at the airport as it is time for him to return to slightly warmer days!

Roger & I have decided not to go night skiing because it is very ordinary and neither of us are in the headspace to deal with it.  We are having a quiet drink & might even head to the pub shortly to socialise for a while.

Hopefully we get some snow pikkies at the cottage tonight!

Brrrr

Going down to -10 tonight with cold southerly change & more snow. Going to be a very cold night ski 😕

Getting closer…

Low snow

Morning everyone. Just a quick post before we set off. Snowed heavily last night & got very close to town. More pikkies in the gallery. Will post more pikkies after night ski tonight.

Hello!

Nasty Button

So you ask, what is a lift button doing in our post? Well, always being a little button pusher, I was happily pushing the lift button to go down & it took violent exception to being constantly prodded, so it bit me! Yep, one heck of a crack & there you are. Me with sore finger and very puzzled look on my face, and the lift with a very smug look saying, “that’ll learn ya”

Mind you, I had my revenge. Result..dead lift for nearly 2 days. Now who’s laughing!

Seriously though, we are all good. Have been very taken up with our skiing and sightseeing & hence have been very slack with updating, but we had a wow of a ski today & decided to call it quits after we were all skied out and so we came down & got stuck in. There are a number of new pikkies in the gallery.

We are expecting snow tonight/tomorrow morning so with a little bit of luck we will have some white pikkies for you.

Well, who said lifes tough?

Here we are sitting back at our little cottage enjoying a pleasant glass of cardonnay ( with apologies to Grace & Saunders ) well, at least I think it was them. Whatever.

I was a slacko this morning & I paid for it. Roger went up early & guess what? It was snowing & uncrowded. Ooops. Clayton did a boo-boo. but in my defence, it was nice & warm and schmoogly in bed. Suffer!!!!

Anyhows, when Roger came down we thought it was only fitting for a relaxed Sunday to sit and enjoy our fave chardonnay. In the meantime, enjoy the latest pikkies.
