An Update!

Finally an update from the 3 of us!

Well, after all the kerfuffle of the last couple of years, maybe, just maybe, this news will be a little better!

NZSKI have kept our accounts in credit and we have renewed our passes before the early bird deal expired. We have also confirmed our usual cottage in Arrowtown ( many thanks Euni ) and am in the process of booking flights and car hire. All being equal, we will see all of our friends at Coronet for 5 weeks starting late July 2023.

In other news, in the menu bar at the top of the page, you will see an entry for “Bruhn Lane Reno” Have been very busy setting up plans for my retirement. This is just a little insight into what has been going on as far a non ski related activities! Bit like skiing actually, an endless round of $$$ being spent, but all worthwhile. At the moment it is in no particular order and I have a lot more photos to upload and document so keep an eye on it.

Finally, Tony & I are coming to NZ on a cruise in early December. Whilst we will not be able to get to Queenstown/Arrowtown to say hi, we will nevertheless be in NZ waters. We are doing Fjordland. Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Napier, Tauranga and Auckland. Whilst in Tauranga we are off to Rotorua to blast our noses with the delightful smell of Sulphur!! Should be a great trip.

That’s all from us across the ditch, stay safe and well and we will see you before too long.

Sad News

Hi Everyone.

It is with a heavy heart that I make this post. Due to a number of uncertainties, we have cancelled our plans to come over this year. Situation with quarantine on both sides of the ditch is as yet unclear and potentially we would have to home quarantine for 10 days which makes it uneconomical, plus given the current high cost and limited availability of flights we thought it best to let it go.

NZski were wonderful, they have credited our passes ready to go again next year. We so wanted to be part of CP 75th celebrations but the snow gods did not smile. Surely things will have settled down for next year. We will keep in touch and stay glued to the webcams. Miss you all & so sad we don’t get to see you anytime soon.

Hugz,

Well Hello!

Hello from across the ditch! Well, maybe it will be third time lucky. We have had to cancel the last 2 seasons but today we made steps for next year…Season passes are booked!
Now let’s wait to see what happens next.

Bubble Burst!!

Well, we always knew things were hanging by a thread. We missed by just 3 days 🙁

Sorry everyone, our holidays skiing NZ are now cancelled. We have closed everything off, I’ll get my skis covered up again & put away for another year. We are both totally devastated at what has happened. Take care over there, big hugs to everyone & we hope to see you in better times.

Here we go again….

Hi everyone.

We have been watching with envy & holding our breath and keeping fingers & toes crossed. Just as it seemed we were going to get to enjoy some skiing, dumb Aussies & the even dumber bureaucrats that run overseas returns and hotel quarantine ( instead of proper facilities ) have put things in serious doubt. With the current NSW situation and now outbreaks in Vic, Qld & possibly SA it is looking more likely the bubble will close. Again. Not happy Jan!!!!@!

Roger has been in Qld since mid June to avoid any problems, I have had my full COVID jabs, we have our NZ entry passes done and are booked to get a formal travel COVID test done Saturday week. So near and yet….

Thinking of you all & hoping things improve enough over here so as to prevent a total burst of the bubble!

Quick Update

Hi Everyone.

Just a very quick update. All things being equal, we will jump the ditch this year for the 20th year! Pity Covid spoilt last year as it would have been an unbroken stretch. Anyhows, all we need to do now is hope we can get flights & the borders stay open!

Helloooo NZ

Well, finally there is a bubble of sorts. Sydney is open for inbound kiwis but nothing for us in Queensland and we still can’t come & visit 🙂

It was such a dismal year sitting here and watching the webcams. At least we saw some familiar faces and Sheena kept us laughing with her updates. In brighter news, we have rolled our passes over until next year so we hope to see you all then. We hope everyone is safe & managing. I have been advised it is much quieter in Queenstown without all the visitors but that won’t be helping anyone who relies on tourism. We are just so glad that Coronet seemed to do well despite the difficulties.

Roger & I are planning on spending 4-5 weeks next year but we won’t be able to confirm that for a while yet, but fingers crossed.

Stay well everyone & much love to you all from us boys over the ditch.

2020 Update

Locker 2020

Hello from across the ditch!

Well, what a real pain. First COVID strikes, then Virgin goes bust then Victoria has an outbreak. Needless to say, we are devastated that it is very, very unlikely we will be over.

Euni was kind enough to shoot this pikkie over so we didn’t forget what our locker looks like 🙂 It is with regret though, we have cancelled our cottage booking out of fairness to them. They might be able to let it out to someone else from within NZ, but we have booked for next year.

Mind you, if by some miracle the “travel bubble” between NZ & Australia should eventuate, we’ll move heaven & earth to get there!

We have been following the webcams and I spotted Tony Russell & Frank Wiley ( instructors ) over the weekend which was good, but haven’t spotted anyone else. Have also been following Sheenas antics on Instagram which has been a huge boost. Hi Sheena, Bronwyn & Sue. Saw you all on the lift.

Hope you all stay well and I’ll keep checking in on the odd occasion.

Much love,

Clayton

A very windy morning!

As you would have gathered from our earlier posts this morning, it was a very wild morning at Coronet. We got there about 7am and the weather rapidly deteriorated. Very strong winds which made for spectacular viewing. Wind gusts at the top of the Express reached 120Kmh which is substantial. We had mini tornados coming down the bottom of the M1 & the Big Easy. Blew everybodys skis about from the racks, a school locker went for a walk, sheets of padding went hurtling across the slope and one of the boom ski guns was rotated nearly 180 degrees.

The field was on hold from the get go and it wasn’t until about 10:30 that the call was made they would open. By then we had some rain but then the snow started so we though we would give it a miss as it was not very interesting. Went down into Queenstown to get a bigger ski bag for Roger and had some brekkie. We also had to do some shopping to stock the house up and then we headed home. As I write this (3:00pm NZ) the day has settled, we have a very weak sun and it should set up for a great day tomorrow, all being well.

As a bye the bye…at 6am the last couple of days here are the temperatures here at home in Arrowtown.

Sunday -4.0C
Monday -5.0C
Tuesday +10.0C

In the meantime, there is a short video showing some of this mornings condition uploaded for viewing.

Cheers,
